Some thoughts on comparing "At-Large Recorder 1"
and "At-Large Recorder 2":
At-Large Recorder 1
- Changes channels
- Saves as optimized asf file, that can be scanned
- Substantial delay between the completion of the recording and the completed processing to optimize the file - the playback format is flexible
- Can watch SlingPlayer before, during, and after recording.
- Can change directory and file name prior to recording
- Default file name is "MyShow.asf" - the same name for all recordings
- No predetermined maximum transfer rate - practically limited to 800 kbps on my system
- Must use a non-encrypted stream - this can be forced by using an older SlingPlayer and/or SlingBox
At-Large Recorder 2
- Does not change channels (already reported to Applian)
- Saves as asf file, that cannot be scanned
- File is ready for immediate playback - though the format is not as flexible
- Can only watch image as it is recorded
- Though the directory can be changed, the file name cannot be changed
- Default is date and time of recording - allows each recording to have separate name
- Recordings are consistently limited to less than 300 kbps
- Will currently work with any version of the SlingBox firmware.
